Local Snowmobilers Honoured With Provincial Awards Last Update: 22-10-10
The Stapley Family of the Old Hastings Snow Riders Club
in District 2 is the recipient of the 2009 Family of the
Year Award from the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile
Clubs (OFSC). The OFSC presents this award to recognize
the important contribution to organized snowmobiling
made by entire families who devote countless hours
working together to support the activity they love. "This family not only works together, but also plays together, and the Stapley's enjoyment of and enthusiasm for snowmobiling are simply infectious," said Bruce Robinson, OFSC President. "We congratulate Team Stapley for epitomizing what family snowmobiling is all about."
Terry Post of the Paudash Trailblazers Snowmobile Club in District 2 is the recipient of the 2009 Rookie of the Year Award from the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs (OFSC). The OFSC presents this award to the outstanding new volunteer who has made the greatest contribution to his or her club for the first time. Although Terry Post started sledding in 1977, it wasn't until 30 years later that he first volunteered for the Paudash Trailblazers. But Terry has more than made up for lost time, undertaking many tasks. From groomer operator to signage and risk management training, and from being a club director to working the annual BBQ and at the club's booth at the annual Peterborough Snowmobile Show, it's as if all that penned up enthusiasm for snowmobiling burst into full force volunteering! "The OFSC has a very successful volunteer recruitment program, so we are attracting more and more first time club volunteers," said Bruce Robinson, OFSC president. "We congratulate Terry Post for epitomizing the very best that these new folks contribute to organized snowmobiling." The Stapley's and Terry are some of the more than 6,500 volunteers from Ontario's 231 not-for-profit snowmobile clubs who serve their communities by providing winter recreation opportunities and supporting local charities. The provincial snowmobile trail network operated by OFSC volunteers and clubs generates almost $1 billion in economic activity each season to benefit rural and small town Ontario.
The OFSC is dedicated to providing strong leadership and
support to member clubs and volunteers, to establishing
and maintaining quality snowmobile trails which are used
in a safe and environmentally responsible manner, and to
furthering the enjoyment or organized snowmobiling.
