S.T.O.P. Activity Results for 2008/09 Season

Posted: July 08, 2009

The OFSC S.T.O.P. Program was both active and effective this past winter, according to OFSC Interim Provincial S.T.O.P. Coordinator Normie Hein. With 110 existing S.T.O.P. Special Constables, S.T.O.P. had a presence in 22 areas. With 16 areas reporting their status as of the Main Trail publication date, here are a few highlights:

• Volunteer Patrol Hours – 3,897
• Police Hours on Patrol – 2,284
• Motorized Snow Vehicles Checked – 22,519
• Kilometres on Patrol – 41,514
• PONs (Provincial Offence Notices) issued by S.T.O.P. - 410
(does not include those issued by police partners)
• Warnings Given – 1,597

This spring, S.T.O.P. has received the okay for the swearing in of 19 new special constables. Being part of S.T.O.P. requires a very special kind of volunteer dedication and the OFSC wishes to thank every S.T.O.P. special constable for their professionalism and commitment to trail safety and enforcement. We especially want to thank former OFSC Provincial Coordinator John McLean who stepped down from that position last December, while remaining active in S.T.O.P. Normie Hein for taking over from John on an interim basis; and retired OPP Sgt. Lynn Beach, for her expertise as OFSC S.T.O.P. Committee Chair.
