The OFSC Go Snowmobiling Campaign is targeted to
increase participation in recreational snowmobiling and
help grow the industry by promoting the snowmobiling
lifestyle. Its primary focus is to attract new
participants, encourage former riders to return and
expand family involvement.
With this in mind three years ago, the OFSC planned the
launch of the Go Snowmobiling Campaign with a variety of
different initiatives, including a Give It A Try Tour,
Take A Friend Snowmobiling, Ride Connection, a Toronto
Star supplement, a new Go Snowmobiling Magazine…and some
kind of a Go Snowmobiling Show.
All of these plans came to fruition and are being
tweaked or revamped as new learning is gleaned and as
the industry environment changes with the economy.
One major change in direction came primarily as a result
of the economic downturn. The OFSC decided not to
continue its stand alone Go Snowmobiling Show next fall
in large part because the rest of the snowmobiling
industry is suffering along with the rest of the
economy. It just did not make sense to try to sell our
show and potentially split the industry in these tough
times.
Equally important, our analysis of 2008/09 Go
Snowmobiling results clearly indicates a very strong
level of success in meeting Go Snowmobiling objectives
from the non-traditional shows (Fall Cottage Life and
Motorcycle) we attended last fall as pilot projects to
test the waters. Not only did these established shows
already draw 20,000 or 30,000 of our intended target
audience (far more than we could hope to get for our own
show for at least several more years), but the four
manufacturers also enthusiastically support this fresh
approach. So our new direction for this portion of the
Go Snowmobiling Campaign is to outreach to non-snowmobilers
with a much larger presence at several non-traditional
shows this season. This fits within our original plans,
plus opens up new opportunities to connect with many
thousands of committed outdoor recreation enthusiasts.
They may not have tried snowmobiling yet, but are
predisposed to liking powersports.
Confirmed non-traditional shows and dates will be
announced later this summer.
