After a five-year freeze in the cost of permits by the
OFSC, the time has come for a small increase in permit
prices.
Starting in the Fall of 2009, early season permits
purchased before December 15th will sell for $200
(instead of $180) while full season permits will
increase to $250 (instead of $230). It's unknown
at this point what the prices will be for 7-day and
3-day permits as changes will certainly be coming there
as well.
The decision to increase the price of permits was made
with input from all OFSC member clubs at the OFSC's
annual general meeting held earlier this year. The
decision was made considering two important factors.
First, the cost of operating the OFSC's member clubs is
increasing due to inflation every year. Because permits
are the main source of funding for every snowmobile
club, each club has only one party to pass these
additional costs onto and this is the permit purchaser.
Second, in asking the OFSC membership what they wanted,
the results indicated that the majority of riders wanted
better signed trails and consistently good grooming all
the time.
As a member of the OFSC, the Paudash club has responded
to membership requests. We are in the process of
making major improvements to the system. Most
riders this past season should have noticed the new
destination signage that was installed throughout the
trail system last fall. In addition to these destination
signs, Paudash purchased and installed new standardized
club trail signs that look similar to the Top Trail
signs and are all colour coded and numbered to match the
District Map.
Next season we will be working on expanding the
destination signage program on our club trails. We have
also added a fifth groomer to our fleet. This will bring
added operating costs, but will also bring smoother
trails especially in the north end of our system where
the current unit has been stretched to its limits for
some time.
So remember when you go to buy that permit next season
that yes you may be paying a little more for it, but
you're also buying better trails and, at $200 for an
early season permit, it's still a heck of a good deal!
