Trail Dedication Honours OFSC Supporter Maurice Mahussier Posted: January 20, 2009
Every
OFSC district has a few key business supporters who go
far beyond expectations to help out. These stalwarts set
an incredible example that we hope other businesses will
learn to emulate. This very special group deserves our
recognition and respect, especially when one is lost to
us so tragically. Here’s how one OFSC district is
showing its appreciation, as related by Lou Kirby… On November 17th, SCSA (Snow Country Snowmobile Association) Trail #159 was renamed in memory of the owner of Spectacle Lake Lodge, Maurice Mahussier. Snowmobilers and ATV riders will be reminded of Maurice, who lost his life as a result of an accident at the lodge this past June, by signs placed at both ends of the trail now known as “Maurice’s Trail”.
Those in attendance included the president of the OFSC, Bruce Robinson, a number of club presidents and volunteers from neighboring clubs, the District 6 manager, members of council for Madawaska Valley Township and South Algonquin Township, Sharon Mahussier, her son, and grandchildren. MPP John Yakabskie presented a certificate to the Mahussier family, while Lou Kirby, 2nd Vice President of the OFSC, also the Opeongo Snowbirds Snowmobile Club Groomer Coordinator, gave a short dedication speech. Lou spoke about Maurice’s activities within the club as a volunteer groomer operator and how he was always ready to provide fi rst class complimentary meals to the various volunteer appreciation rides. He and his wife, Sharon, were also credited as founding members of the RAP Tour.
